A bit of a victory as this has been bugging me for some time.
Now released is NEAR FANTASTICA'S V1 PATH FINDING - FIXED, a script that is over 95% the original work of Jaime Webster better known as Near Fantastica.
The original script had an issue that was apparently unknown, unrecorded and undiagnosed since its creation in 2005. The issue pertained to how the script created a path by divining one from thedestination and sought out the target event that is to move. And with that, it did not properly account for passable tiles when generating a course in reverse.
If a tile only allowed movement to the west/right and the destination is to the left of that tile, the original design which would create a path left-to-right would look at the pathway restricted tile with no problem. Aye, that was a problem that needed addressing. Fortunately, it only required a few minor additions and changes to code in the method that 'makes' the path.
This has been a nuisance for me since it was identified last year with my adaptation of Near Fantastica's Squad Movement script. It is used in my Lycan ABS to allow enemy targets hunt their prey despite obstacles. And more.
And it is done.
I'll look at his Version 2 script...... LATER!
