RPG Maker VX Ace, new RPG Maker.
#1
Hey Derv, remember when you said you would prefer a maker that's like VX with some features from XP brought over?

Look like it just might be shaping up to be just that!
  • Battlebacks are back
  • Comes with a built-in Character/Face generator
  • Has 100 premade maps
  • Multiple tilesets are back.
  • Now comes with Caterpillar
  • Ogg Theora video is supported and can be displayed via Event Command
  • A Limit Break-esque feature is being introduced.
  • Max Party can be 8, but the last 4 are used as "reserves," whatever that is.
  • Scripting's back and is now upgraded to RGSS3.
  • According to what I've read, I don't think you'll be able to import your stuff onto VX Ace.
  • I'm sure there's more.
This is some official piece of info.

If any mods want to add more info onto this, feel free to edit this post as you please.

*Can't modify posts in this section* Lol.
I am aware that of several other improvements:
http://www.koruldia.info/viewtopic.php?t=1208 (my source)

- The battle system has a lot more options to allow for customisation
- You can precisely control what an enemy does (for example a boss will follow a routine etc)
- Unlimited tilesets (ABOUT TIME!) -with- Terrain ID

And yes, it has been confirmed that, as is, you will not be able to import current VX projects. On the other hand, the person who wrote this blog said that you -can- copy maps over and since scripts are just text you could copy/paste them (with a few updates for RGSS3) and you're good to go!

Nice but I don't like the look of the VX Sprites :( Hopefully I can use the XP sprites :D

If you customise everything then I don't see why you can't use anything you want...

I don't use RPG Maker anymore... but that sounds great :) I hate the idea of premade maps though. Now you're going to see games with the same 3 stock characters and the same stock maps :/

Those maps are as an example only... Anyone who uses them is a complete retard.

If it helps to make game creation easier for beginners while saving our eyes from being exposed to poorly-done maps with walls made out of floor, then I'm all for it. Plus, I think having sample maps around can also prove to be beneficial to people who would want to strive to create maps they can be proud of.
