Gather 'round, everyone. Anyone here into typefaces (fonts)? Let's discuss/share our thoughts on typefaces we dislike. :P
There are plenty of fonts I dislike due to the fact that I've seen them used in bad application... a lot. The fonts I really don't like at the moment are Bleeding Cowboys, Papyrus and Comic Sans MS.
Bleeding Cowboys seems to be everyone's favorite font of the week. Recently, I've seen this font get used everywhere. This includes but isn't limited to fliers, rock bands (Burn Halo for example), books, magazines, website banners (lol rmxpuniverse ;)), forum avatars, forum signatures, comics, a t-shirt of a high school marching band, album artwork, commercials, a science(?) website, a cocktail menu, a wrestling pay-per-view(!!!) and CAMWHORE PICTURES. Seeing it used on anything they can think of by nearly everyone and their grandmother just grates on my nerves like a hit single being overplayed on TV and radio and it really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Bleeding Cowboys has lost it's appeal. It's a dang joke to me now. Sure, it was a good looking font, that's undeniable. But it's been abused to death. Just wait until Bleeding Cowboys gets it's own hate website dedicated to it like bancomicsans.com or a sightings blog like papyruswatch.com. :P
I'm kind of a hypocrite for writing this, aren't I?
Papyrus, the original Bleeding Cowboys. Overused to death. I feel pretty bad for Chris Costello (font creator). Papyrus Watch, Papyrus Sightings, Chris's blog entry on Papyrus, Interview with Chris about Papyrus on Iheartpapyrus.
Comic Sans MS... the context in which this font is used just rubs me the wrong way. I find the font to be totally okay and appropriate when it comes to being used for anything that's intended for younger audiences or anything that's coming from someone at an innocent age. When used outside of that context, it just screams "I can't be taken seriously". I know the creator (Vincent Connare) of the font didn't make this for general use and intended this for an application geared towards children.
Comic Sans in the news? That just hurts man. http://www.flickr.com/photos/joeclark/114831385/
