 Codepen BBCode?
#1
Alright, here's a new request I'm throwing your way. Codepens! Well, making a BBCode that lets members embed their own Pens onto a post. If you're wondering what's Codepen, you should probably take a look at this article @ Sitepoint, which adequately explains what the site is and what it does. It's essentially a front-end web developer's playground that lets people into web design build something called 'pens,' which pretty much means little embedded demos of a html/css/javascript code set.

Now if you're wondering what does presenting html codes have to do with a site like this: Consider the possibilities of what demos one could showcase here. Fancy CSS + Javascript-based animations. Tools. Concepts, even. Case in point: http://codepen.io/designil/pen/fpmBG

Links If you do consider implementing such a bbcode, I've already put together the regular expression as well as the replacement code for the regular expression. It can also be customized as well as be resizable (though the latter may take a bit of time to implement).

To ensure the security of the forum and its members, I must dutifully say no. I do appreciate the suggestion and know that members interested in web development, including yourself and Charlie Fleed, would find this tool very useful if only to test their code. However, the forum has limited the code used within posts to strictly css and bbcode rather than full html code since its inception.

While all regular members within our community are trustworthy, there is always the chance that spambots or malicious individuals may enter. Allowing the use of HTML would be a hazard, if not that merely adding improper code could break a thread. Alongside that, permitting the use of either html or javascript could create holes in the forum’s safeguards and invite malicious code to enter, which in itself could become hazardous to our members. CodePens is fairly new and there would be no guarantee that someone wouldn’t attempt to use it in a harmful manner.

The forum does grant access to CSS code as noted within the BBCode selection in the top menu bar, very useful in generating the forum’s Gazette or your signature. However, use of HTML and JavaScript will be respectfully denied for the sake of forum security.
