having a spot of trouble here. all the events happen as they should up until the characters switch. when it comes time for the party members to switch, it freezes. wat do?

You may want to set the 2nd page to another parallel process. Autorunning it may make it try to continuously transfer... till doomsday.
After the transfer, make one more switch 'transfer complete', and make a 3rd page that is plain jane 'trigger' page that is activated when the 'transfer complete' switch is on.

i originally had it as a parallel process that would then transfer over to another scene, and then final out on that map. ill try it with a third page, my problem might be that i have it set up to try to do two things at once. this is the first part of an interlude/story branch, so maybe i should move to my chapter transition map before going back to the other character.

ok so i changed some stuff around so that it all happens in seperate events. now, instead of going to the chapter transition map, it goes right back to the first map where the duel takes place, and starts all over again. i tried this as both a parallel process AND an autostart. i think rpg maker xp is either out to get me, or that my game is so abhorrent to nature (like the large hadron collider) that it must be sabataging itself from the future. i've completely lost my game several times in the past, and now this is happening which is completely breaking the experience.
the only thing i can think of is that the suikoden duel script i'm using is somehow screwing this all up, but i don't have the scripting knowhow to look at it and see what the issue is. edit: I took out the suikoden duel, and now everything goes as planned until the transfer happens to the jail cell with the other character. the event starts, but then it the screen goes black and doesn't want to return. this is a parallel process as well, and there is NOTHING in any event on that map that would change the screen to black.

so i fixed the problem. it all had to do with the duel system. not sure where, but taking it out fixed the problem.

Well, the event code you showed didn't have anything turning it off.
Page 1 runs when the 0180: strayer victory switch is off... which turns that switch on, and... Page 2 runs when the 0180: strayer voctory switch is on. Either parallel process or auto-run, they start running the moment the switch is activated or deactivated as long as it stays on the same map. To deactivate, you need to have a 3rd page like I mentioned before.... or to switch to another map like you did with the transfer player. But the moment you return to that map, the parallel processes will start again... it'll loop.

but i didnt return to that map, it went to a different map completely. it's ok, i got it working, i just had to take the duel out. it was breaking everything for some reason, because it works fine with a regular battle replacing it. sometimes rmxp tards out on me and doesn't do what it should for some reason.
